Reasons why maintaining a skincare routine is good for your mental health?
  1. It provides a daily structural routine which is great for your mind and body.

Routines that are followed with consistency are healthy for your body and mind. A balanced daily routine can include exercising, sleeping, meditating, mindful eating as well as personal time. In essence, routines bring stability within a day and when followed are known to be a form of self-care. When committing to a structural skincare routine, your mind recognizes that you are doing something positive  by taking the time and energy to take care and prioritize yourself.  Not to mention, it can also give you something to look forward to every day, which supports your mind to have a sense of purpose and positive anticipation. In all, a day with a healthy and mindful routine, followed by a skincare routine, will always feel self-nourishing and comforting,  bringing balance into your life.

  1. A skincare routine can chemically boost your mood.

Just by massaging your face gently with your hands and taking time to apply your favorite serums and moisturizer can bring feelings of pleasure and enjoyment. Whether it’s applying a facemask, using a warm washcloth to steam your skin, or using your hands to intentionally apply your favorite serum, the feeling is extremely satisfying and calming to your brain and nerves.   This intentional act can be extremely therapeutic, feel meaningful, and is an overall positive experience with yourself. According to a source, studies show that a skincare routine can slough away the stresses of the day and help take your mind off anything that does not serve you.

According to an article written by Dr. Nikoletta Brankov, just the simple planning to pamper and prioritize your skin health can bring you to feel a natural-high.  The Dr. explains that the anticipation of happy events can release feel-good neurotransmitters in the brain. This influences the prefrontal cortex, a region in your brain that gives you a sense of relaxation, well-being, and comfort.

  1. It is a complete confidence booster.

Have you noticed after doing a facemask or when finishing your skincare routine, you look and feel better? The answer is most likely yes. A clear and glowing complexion can significantly enhance your self-esteem and confidence. It may also lead you to feeling more comfortable and beautiful without wearing makeup.  Being comfortable in your own skin is extremely important and can help strengthen your self-worth.

Your smile will be more radiant, your skin will literally glow, and people will notice! A healthy skincare routine is a positive influence for your overall well-being and your self-esteem and in return can also help improve your relationships with others.  The most important factor is being mindful, being present and aware of your radiant internal beauty. This is a key factor when it comes to self-acceptance, self-worth, and feeling comfortable in your own skin.

  1. A powerful form of mindfulness, self-kindness, and gratitude

Just by being mindful and giving yourself the kindness and time for a skincare routine, you are subconsciously bringing a sense of gratefulness to yourself.  In essence, you are practicing the powerful affirmations of “I deserve, and I am worthy”.  Positive affirmations can be done by actions and can cultivate a positive self-image.

Focusing on your face and applying your favorite products on your skin can give you a grateful sensation in the present and in the future. As you focus on the wonderful textures and scents of the products and the sensations of applying them kindly to your skin, you become more present, self-aware, and joyful. Being mindful of what you have instead of focusing on the things you lack will also help bring you happiness and abundance. You are living presently in the moment, which is a wonderful way to cut out any anxiety or negative thoughts that may not bring you fulfillment down the road.

A simple adjustment in perspective of being grateful, slowing down, focusing intently on a skincare-routine is a form of self-gratitude.
